Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill Review

Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill Review

So far in my previous posts, I have written gas grill reviews that fit in the “under $500” category (some under $200), with the weber genesis s-330, I am entering into a whole new category of gas grill reviews (and price for that matter). This grill is built to last. As more than one customer put it, the Weber genesis s-330 is built like a tank. With its three stainless steel burners (controlled separately), its new sear station, its additional side burner along with its 7mm diameter stainless steel rod cooking grates and stainless steel flavoring bars that will have you competing with “The Outback”, you’ll be tempted to spend the extra money to get this grill.

Weber Genesis S-330 Fuel Usage

It has three burners totaling 38,000 BTU plus a side burner of 12,000 BTU and a sear station of 10,000 BTU. The great thing about this grill is the ability to control all of these separately.
The stainless steel burners run front to back and as a result facilitate indirect cooking.

The sear station corrects the main issue that comes with gas grills and that is the challenge of searing a steak. You can do some great searing with the weber genesis s-330. One customer suggests to put the meat on the sear station and cook for about a minute a half, rotate the steak 90 degrees and then flip it over. This allows for the diamond grill marks. You then cook it for another minute and a half and then you flip it again and sear for another 3 minutes. Then cook it with indirect heat (sear station and burner in the middle are turned off now) and you’ll get an awesome steak. This is one example of the capabilities of turning on and off different burners to obtain the perfect steak.

Weber Genesis S-330 Size and Dimensions

Primary cooking area = 507 sq in
Warming rack area = 130 sq in
Total cooking area – 637

With the lid open:
Height: 64.5 inches
Width R-L: 60 inches
Depth: 30 inches

Note: This grill is heavy. Almost two hundred pounds (190 pounds to be exact). Good thing this grill has huge casters (not made out the cheap plastic you find with other grills). All four caster spin (the front ones lock).

Weber Genesis S-330 Clean Up

One great feature of the Weber genesis s-330 grill is the fact that the main grease tray is porcelain coated so the grease won’t stick to it. On top of this, Weber includes 2 aluminum trays that are disposable (similar to the inexpensive baking trays that you can get at grocery stores). So if you don’t want to remove and clean the metal tray you can just buy the aluminum inserts and throw them away when they are full.

Other Features of the Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill

The 7 mm diameter stainless steel rod cooking grates leave awesome grilling marks on your steaks or whatever you cook on your Weber genesis s-330 grill. When the meat juices fall onto the flavoring stainless steel bars they create smoke that will give your food an irresistible barbecued flavor.

Having individual electronic ignition gives you great control over your cooking. The two side tables come in handy as well as your side burner does for multitasking (ie. cooking some baked beans as you grill). The 507 square inches of a primary cooking area along with a warming rack of 130 square inches totaling 637 inches for your total cooking area allows you to cook with plenty of space for a significant number of people.Having a stainless steel enameled shroud (the outer body of the grill) means you don’t have to worry when it comes to rust or scratches.

The center-mounted thermometer allows you to control at all times your temperature. Below the two stainless steel work stations, you have an enclosed tank storage area with a precise fuel gauge. The four heavy duty swivel casters allow you to move this heavy grill with ease with the front ones locking when needed. The painted steel frame and the porcelain-enameled heat deflectors all add to the top quality of this Weber grill.

Weber Genesis S-330 Customer Reviews

Customers have varied on their perspective on how long it takes to assemble this “monster” grill. One family claims to have put it together in about 30 minutes (three people). That´s fast. Most customers who review this grill and talk about how long it took them to put it together are closer to the two-hour range. And most (if not all) agree that the instructions are clear and that is easy to assemble.

Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill Pros:

At the time of writing this review, on Amazon almost all reviewers gave this grill five stars, two gave it four stars and one person gave it one star. A side note on the person that gave it one star. It is pretty obvious that it is a fake review. I have never seen something so blunt. These guys say it is a piece of junk and then says two or three negative things and have no detail. It breathes as someone who is just trying to get fewer people to buy this thing. I am always interested in hearing why someone gives a product a one star. This one is odd. You can read this review and what others comment about and come to your own conclusions.

The strongest pro on the weber genesis s-330 gas grill is the way this thing is built. Like I referenced before, it is built like a tank. It is built to last for a long time. Not only is this thing built well but the capabilities you have with the sear station and separate controllers allow you to cook like a Chef. The flavorized bars and the side burner also are some great pros to this grill. The ability to do indirect cooking, especially since the burners run front to back (makes the indirect cooking work even better).

Huge casters that are 4 inches round, thick steel for the main frame and the cooking grates with thick stainless steel bars welded together all add to the pros of this superior Weber grill.

Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill Cons:

You get what you pay for. This is generally true. In this case, you are getting an outstanding grill but in doing so you´ll have to spend more than a few hundred dollars. The cost would be the main con if this is outside of your budget. But if you can afford it and are looking for a grill to use for the next decade or so you might consider it as an investment that will save you money in the long run.

Bottom line: If you are looking at “investing” in a grill that will last more than a decade and are able to spend the money, do it. If you want a Weber but can´t spend this much and are looking at something smaller and more portable check out the Weber Q 320 Portable Gas Grill Review.
